The RNOH is an NHS highly specialised commissioned centre for the diagnosis and treatment of patients of all ages with confirmed or suspected bone or soft tissue tumours, including sarcomas. These include benign and malignant tumours including bone and soft tissue sarcomas and metastatic bone disease.
Our service is an important part of the London Sarcoma Service which provides multidisciplinary care including radiotherapy and chemotherapy for patients with bone and soft tissue sarcomas.
Our team are leaders in the diagnosis and treatment of bone and soft tissue tumours, including limb-sparing surgery for cancer. We offer reconstructions including endoprosthetic reconstruction, biological reconstruction, and bone grafting. The clinical team includes expert clinical nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists.

The RNOH team is an important part of the London Sarcoma Service, one of the largest sarcoma services in Europe with an international reputation for providing high quality care to patients with bone and soft tissue tumours, including sarcoma. It provides a comprehensive service to patients of all ages from the first consultation, through investigation, to treatment, rehabilitation and follow-up, seeing about 500 new patients with sarcoma each year.

The services offered at RNOH include:
- Specialist surgery for pelvic, spinal and extremity bone and soft tissue tumours, including complex limb reconstruction and amputation
- Specialist diagnostic pathology and radiology services
- Rehabilitation including physiotherapy and occupational therapy.
The London Sarcoma Service is part of the London and South East Sarcoma Network
- Patients with sarcomas in the spine or spinal cord compression should be referred directly to the RNOH spinal team.
- Patients with suspected sarcomas in non-extremity/trunk sites (abdomen, gynaecological, head and neck, breast) should be referred directly to UCLH.
- Referrals from Primary Care should be made using the NHS e-Referral Service system, e-RS. We do not accept patients without imaging unless there is a high risk of sarcoma (eg a history of confirmed sarcoma, fungating tumours) and the referral is discussed with the on-call team. Referrals should be made to a local diagnostic service if there is uncertainty.
- Referrals to the RNOH Orthopaedic Oncology service from secondary and tertiary care should be made online using Pathpoint. We routinely ask for more information or further imaging and so it is important that you respond to emails generated by Pathpoint. To refer a patient use the 'PATHPOINT' link (within your Secure hospital network) and follow the steps below:
- Register with your personal NHS email address for a PATHPOINT account to manage your referral/s
- Login to your account with your credentials by clicking the 'PATHPOINT' link
- Input your referring organisation, and patient PID details
- Click the drop down list of referral pathway forms and select "Orthopaedic oncology" and click "Go to referral form" to launch the form
- Fill in all fields of the Tertiary Sarcoma Unit referral form and click "Save Orthopaedic oncology"
