Anyone working in the NHS, receiving NHS treatment or visiting NHS premises has the right to feel safe and secure from violence and abuse, both physical and verbal.
Most of our patients and visitors treat our colleagues with kindness and respect, and equally our staff and volunteers aim to be polite, helpful and sensitive to all patients, their families and carers.
The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital supports the Government’s zero tolerance campaign in protecting health service colleagues. We have a 'Zero Tolerance' to any violence or abuse directed at staff, volunteers, patients, or visitors. Aggressive, intimidating or threatening behaviour will not be tolerated and may result in removal from our care and Security or the Police being contacted.
Unacceptable behaviour includes:
- Violence.
- Excessive noise eg. recurrent loud or intrusive conversation or shouting.
- Threatening or abusive language involving swearing or offensive remarks.
- Racial, homophobic or sexual remarks.
- Aggressive, forceful tone and/or language that upsets staff.
- Malicious allegations relating to members of staff, other patients or visitors.
- Offensive gestures or behaviours.
- Abusing alcohol or drugs on hospital premises.
- Wilful damage of hospital property.
- Threats or threatening behaviour.
- Theft.
- Repeated derogatory comments about individual hospital staff either verbally, in writing/digitally or on social media platforms
